2020
2020 is a video piece documenting and representing different experiences of life in lockdown due to the Coronavirus. The project theme was initially indecisiveness, but I changed it in order to respond to the global crisis. The audio is sourced from interviews, talking to people around the world talking about how the pandemic has affected them, and the visuals are primarily of a plague doctor (an unnerving papier mâché mask) wearing a bat wing cape – linking to the cause of the virus. The cape spans 2 metres - the advised space for social distancing – and is painted front and back with symbols, characters and text relating to the pandemic. The whole project made using the materials and methods I could in isolation, such as old bedsheets and wall paint, and my family as actors. My piece reflects on uncertainty and the constant changing information on our current global situation.
